It is again that time of the year for the Annual Fishers Observation meetings for 2024. Understanding the need for stock assessments to incorporate traditional knowledge and historical ecological events, Uncle Roy Morioka and Clay Tam, two passionate fishermen, began annually soliciting and documenting information from fishermen on notable changes, events and observations that are key to understanding the status of our fish stocks. It is important as fishers for our voices and knowledge to be recorded and documented.

As Uncle Roy has relocated out of state, Clay Tam (PIFG) is hosting the 4th annual Fishers’ Observations meeting along with support from the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council and NOAA Fisheries. We hope Fishermen across the Pacific region will share their feedback on the previous years’ fishing, changes, and local knowledge. Please spread the word to other fishers in your area. Schedules for the meetings and virtual links are below. Hope to see all of you there.

Mahalo,
Clay Tam
